Rat in the Snack Room is a work that includes many different styles including rock, latin, shuffle and fast bop. Through the entire work, the quarter note remains the same pulse, except the end, where it slows a little. The first solo section is a minor key shuffle for tenor sax & trombone. The second solo section is fast bop minor blues for alto sax and may be repeated for guitar and/or piano. There is an open drum solo that should come to a crashing end, the the set player should begin the 6/4 pattern at a slower pace. When the bass enters, everyone should know where they are. This work is very challenging, with ferocious saxophone parts, lots of high range brass and an awesome bass trombone part. Check out the recording - this chart is burnin!
