Sailors Story was a project from my graduate composition class at McNeese State University taught by the late, great Keith Gates. The assignment was to write for a chamber ensemble and pick a form. I chose sax quartet and scherzo-trio for the form. I decided to give it some nautical vibes and dedicate it to my father, Brian Trenton Rhodes, who served in the Navy during the Korean Conflict. This composition is included in the Jean Marie-Londeix book A Comprehensive Guide to Saxophone Repertoire.
