Top Shelf basically combines the tunes Lil Darlin and Shiny Stockings into my first slow, Basie style swing tune. It should be an excellent teaching tool to play in this style. The solo section is open, with changes in the Alto 1, Tenor 1, Trumpet 2 and Trombone 1 parts. A piano or guitar solo would also be appropriate for this tune. Add a touch of elegance to you next jazz band concert!
