In the Summer of 2015, I was approached by my band director friend and fine trumpet player Cody Jernigan about a special jazz band commission. He wanted to dedicate a new composition to SGM Danny Fletcher, who will be retiring from the Army after 42 years of public service. The result is this fun shuffle tune Back This Thang Up. Its a standard up-tempo shuffle with solos written for trombone, trumpet, alto sax and tenor sax. Each solo should begin with a two measure break. The lead alto needs to double on flute for the solo section to imitate back up beeps.
